Opening My Heart Again: A Tarot Reading for Healing and Trust
A five-card tarot reflection on grief, boundaries, self-love, transformation, and trusting divine timing.

Healing is rarely a straight line. Sometimes we feel ready to move forward, only to discover that some guarded part of the heart is still holding on—to grief, fear, or the belief that remaining closed will keep us safe.
For this reading, I adapted a heart-centered tarot spread I found on Pinterest. I used the Ever After Spell Tarot, a fairy-tale-inspired deck that reimagines familiar archetypes through stories of dreamers, lovers, rebels, and healers. Its themes of transformation and becoming felt especially appropriate for a reading about opening the heart.
My intention was not to force an answer or predict what comes next. I wanted to understand what has kept my heart closed, how I might begin opening it again, and what could become possible if I chose to see my life through the eyes of love.

The Significator: Five of Cups
The Five of Cups represents the emotional foundation of this reading: healing after sadness or loss.
Grief deserves to be acknowledged. There is no wisdom in pretending a loss did not matter or rushing ourselves through the mourning process. This card gives me permission to feel what I feel and to honor what has ended.
At the same time, it reminds me not to let grief become the only story I can see. I can mourn without allowing sorrow to consume me. Healing does not require forgetting what happened; it asks me to make room for life alongside the loss.
Why Is My Heart Closed? Wheel of Fortune
The Wheel of Fortune points to my desire to control circumstances—and especially the actions or choices of other people.
When I focus too heavily on what someone else might do, I lose sight of myself. My peace begins depending on outcomes I cannot command. I start circling around possibilities, trying to anticipate every turn of the wheel instead of returning to my own center.
This card reminds me that I cannot control everything around me, but I can choose how I care for myself within uncertainty. Opening my heart begins with releasing my grip on other people’s behavior and returning to self-love.
How Can I Open My Heart? Seven of Swords
The Seven of Swords asks me not to let the past make me paranoid about the future.
Pain teaches us to protect ourselves, but protection can quietly become suspicion. If I assume that every new person will repeat an old betrayal, I remain emotionally tied to the very experiences I am trying to escape.
Opening my heart does not mean abandoning discernment or ignoring warning signs. It means creating healthy boundaries and habits that allow trust to grow gradually. Boundaries are not walls; they are structures that help relationships develop with honesty, safety, and mutual respect.
I do not have to choose between being completely guarded and completely unprotected. I can remain wise without expecting the worst.
How Can I View the World Through the Eyes of Love? Two of Swords
The Two of Swords tells me that I am in the middle of a transformation.
I may not have every answer yet, and I do not need to force a decision simply to escape the discomfort of uncertainty. There is value in pausing, listening, and making peace with where I am now.
Viewing the world through the eyes of love means offering myself patience. It means accepting that growth can be quiet and that progress does not have to be dramatic to be real. Slow and steady wins the race.
I am allowed to become who I am becoming at my own pace.
What Will I See as a Result? Seven of Pentacles
The Seven of Pentacles closes the reading with a message of patience and divine timing.
The things I am working toward may not arrive according to my preferred schedule, but that does not mean nothing is happening. Growth often begins beneath the surface, long before there is visible proof of it.
My task is to stay the course: to continue choosing self-love, healthy boundaries, patience, and openness. I can tend what I have planted without digging it up every day to check whether it has taken root.
This card reassures me that I am not behind. I am where I am meant to be, and what is meant for me is unfolding in its own time.
What Do I Need to Know About My Current Situation? The Hermit
After completing the spread, I drew one more card and asked, “What do I need to know about my current situation?” The Hermit appeared.
The Hermit asks me to turn inward and listen for the wisdom that is already within me. I do not need to search outside myself for every answer or demand that the entire path become visible at once. My inner light will illuminate the next step when I am ready to take it.
This card encourages me to move thoughtfully rather than react from fear, loneliness, or urgency. I can pause, consider what is true for me, and choose wisely. When I follow the guidance of my own inner light, love will follow.
The Message of the Reading
Together, these cards tell a compassionate story.
First, I must honor my sadness without making a permanent home inside it. Then I must release the illusion that controlling other people will keep me safe. I can use boundaries rather than suspicion, patience rather than pressure, and trust rather than fear.
Opening the heart is not one brave moment in which every defense disappears. It is a practice. It is the slow work of returning to myself, choosing love without abandoning wisdom, and believing that what is growing will reveal itself when the time is right.
For now, my message is simple:
Mourn what was lost. Return to your center. Let boundaries protect your peace without becoming walls. Trust the transformation—and stay the course.
