Honoring an Ending Without Rushing What Comes Next
A personal tarot reading about endings, patience, returning joy, and appreciating the present while making space for what comes next.

Some days, a fresh start looks like a cup of tea and permission to rest.
I’m currently dealing with a sinus infection or cold, so that’s where I’m coming to the cards today: a little worn out, ready to feel better, and curious about what might be shifting beyond the obvious need for tissues.
For this reading, I used a spread I found on Amber Golightly Astrology + Tarot’s Pinterest. Its questions invite us to consider what’s ending, what we’re grieving, what’s emerging, and how to honor the transition.
For this reading, I’m using the Lovely Ladies Tarot Deck by BrittanyKellerArt on Etsy.
The cards I pulled brought me back to a recurring theme: appreciating where I am while giving myself room to grow.

The Significator: King of Pentacles
The King of Pentacles sets the tone for this reading with success, tenacity, patience, and preparation. There’s a balanced, nurturing temperament here, along with an appreciation for the rewards of life’s labor.
That last part catches my attention. How often do I work toward something, reach it, and immediately start thinking about the next thing? There’s always another goal, another project, another way to improve. Enjoying what I’ve already accomplished can get pushed further down the list.
The King of Pentacles invites me to pause long enough to appreciate what my efforts have made possible.
His nurturing energy also feels relevant while I’m under the weather. Patience and care are easy things to recommend to someone else. Offering them to myself takes a little more practice.
Today, that might mean accepting a slower pace without treating it as a personal failure.
What Is Ending? Three of Cups
The Three of Cups feels like an interesting answer to a question about endings. My associations with this card are joyful: elevated energy, laughter, connection, and allowing happiness to have its place.
So what might be coming to a close?
My first thought is this stretch of feeling sick. When you’re congested and tired, the idea of having enough energy to enjoy yourself again is pretty appealing. Perhaps that’s why my intuition went there first. I’m holding it as a hopeful association, rather than a promise about when I’ll feel better.
There’s another possibility, too: the ending of a period in which joy hasn’t had much room.
Sometimes, even when something pleasant happens, I’m already thinking about what needs doing next. The Three of Cups asks me to stay with the good moment. Laugh. Enjoy the conversation. Let something lift my spirits without immediately returning to my mental checklist.
Perhaps what’s ending is the habit of making joy wait until everything else is finished.
What Am I Grieving? Three of Wands
The Three of Wands turns my attention toward the future—and the versions of that future I may have imagined for myself.
There can be grief in realizing that life hasn’t unfolded on the timeline I expected. Goals take longer. Priorities shift. An opportunity passes, and I wonder what might have happened if I’d taken it.
The thought that came to me with this card was that life still holds a blank canvas. There are possibilities I haven’t touched yet. There is still time to name what brings me that sense of inner bliss and decide what I want to do with it.
That doesn’t mean I have to dismiss disappointment. I can acknowledge what I hoped for and give myself time to feel the loss of it.
But I can also ask: What do I want now?
As transformations happen, it’s worth stopping to consider whether the goals I’m carrying still belong to the person I’m becoming. The next stage of my life deserves some clear intentions, and those intentions need room to change as I do.
What Is Emerging? Knight of Pentacles
The Knight of Pentacles follows with patience, resilience, and managed expectations.
There’s something reassuring about seeing him in the same spread as the King. Steadiness keeps showing up. So does the suggestion that I can take my time.
The Knight invites me to value the present and use hindsight thoughtfully. My successes have something to teach me about what works. My failures have something to teach me about what needs adjusting.
I don’t have to keep reliving either one to learn from it.
What seems to be emerging is a more patient way of moving forward. I can set expectations that account for my actual energy and circumstances. I can choose a manageable next step and give it my attention.
While I’m feeling unwell, that message is especially welcome. Today’s capacity gets to matter when I decide what today requires.
How Can I Honor This Ending? Two of Wands
The Two of Wands brings together restlessness, self-improvement, and an invitation to recognize my own value.
I know that restless feeling: the urge to make a plan, change something, or move toward the next version of my life. It can be motivating, but it can also make the present feel like somewhere I’m merely waiting to leave.
This card asks me to appreciate what I have while I have it.
That includes appreciating myself. My value doesn’t begin at the completion of the next goal. I’m allowed to feel good about who I am while still having things I want to learn or change.
Honoring this ending might mean reconnecting with the things that bring me a quiet, personal sense of happiness. What feels worthwhile? What do I already have that deserves more of my attention? Which ambitions leave me feeling energized, and which ones have become obligations I no longer understand?
Those questions give my restlessness a direction. They help me make plans that reflect what I truly value.
Taking the Reading With Me
Across these cards, I keep finding patience, appreciation, and the possibility of welcoming more joy.
The Three of Cups makes room for laughter. The Three of Wands acknowledges the ache of what hasn’t happened while opening a view toward what still could. The Knight of Pentacles encourages a steady pace, and the Two of Wands asks me to plan from a place of self-worth.
At the center sits the King of Pentacles, reminding me that a life takes tending—and that I’m allowed to enjoy it as I go.
For today, I’m taking that as an invitation to rest, notice something good, and let my next step be small enough to take with care.
If you’re sitting with an ending of your own, what would help you honor it today?
